Jesus is Always There
When Jesus was living on the earth he was busy. He was daily surrounded by crowds of people who wanted to see him. Some of them were sick and wanted to be healed, some came to watch the healings, while others came to hear him preach the word of God.
One day after having preached and healed the sick since morning, Jesus was tired and went home with his disciples for a little rest. Scarcely had he lain down when there was a knock at the door. The disciples hurried to the door and opening it, they found a big crowd of people outside. There were mothers with small babies in their arms, children clinging to their mother’s skirts, and other children playing and shouting in the yard. The disciples were angry and asked them what they wanted. “We would like Jesus to bless our children”, the mothers tremblingly replied. Now the disciples became furious and shouted at them, “What do you think you are doing disturbing the teacher’s rest? Away from here! The teacher has no time for children”.
The parents turned away disappointed and so did the children, who had hoped to see Jesus. Just then Jesus came to the door. He was angry and scolded the disciples saying, “Let the children come to me and do not stop them, because the kingdom of God belongs to such as these”.
The disciples were stunned and further intrigued when Jesus told them that if they did not become like little children, they could not enter God’s kingdom. He then asked the children to come to Him. He took them into His arms, embraced them and spoke kind words to them. He laid his hands on them and blessed them, while the parents looked on with joy. Every child understood that Jesus was his friend and loved him, and went home happy. This was a day he would never forget in his life.
Jesus never turned anyone away, including children. He welcomed them instead. He had time to talk to them, and touched them so that they felt loved and cared for. What a relief that He is the same yesterday today and tomorrow. He loves even me. He loves me all the time, even when I’ve not been obedient. The happiest thought that warms me is that he will never turn me away if I go to Him. He actually loved me enough to die for me.
