Before I trusted Christ
I was raised in a church attending family. It was basically something to do but I dont ever remember any of my family trying to bring me to Christ even though several of them held positions in the church. So I went to church every time the doors were open until I reached an age to make my own decisions. Then I went on holidays mostly. I lived in the world and thought I was a Christian because I went to church. I remember praying when I needed something but I didnt know there was only one prayer God hears from the un-believer.
How I trusted Christ
I lived a hard life, wild and free. I did pretty much as I pleased. I'm sure I broke every commandment at least several times but I never got caught. Then came that day when my life turned upside down. I killed someone. I can remember crying "God help me! How could you let me do this?" That's about the stupidest thing I ever said. I just didnt know it then. When I got to jail, the chaplain asked me if I wanted a Bible and I said yes. On my knees in that cell is where I asked Christ into my life. I knew I'd never make it alone.
Since I've trusted Christ
John 3:16 started me out. And for the longest time, I claimed that verse (the only one I had memorized) as my own. Then a group of ladies came in to teach and they helped me to learn more of what my life meant. Between them and the Holy Spirit convicting us I learned to hold my head up. I learned to tell others about my lives. Yes I have a life sentence here in prison. But guess what? My other life sentence is the one I can hardly wait for -- the everlasting, eternal life I will spend in heaven with my Father God. Until then I keep learning, praying and getting to know God. I do my best to let my light shine. I want everyone to see and know God.
