Daniel 12:2-3
A witness is one who testifies to the truth. John 1:7, 1 John 1:1-3.
1. It is commanded. Matthew 28:18-20, 1 Peter 3:15.
2. People are going to Hell. Daniel 12:2, Revelation 20:10-15.
3. We are God's means to sharing the Good News. Romans 10:14-15, James 5:20,
4. It is wise. Proverbs 11:30, Daniel 12:3, I Corinthians 15:58.
1. You don't have to be gifted in speech. Exodus 4:10-12.
2. You have power from God. 2 Timothy 1:7, Romans 1:16.
3. The Word of God is effective. Hebrews 4:12.
4 You can get wisdom from God. James 1:5-8.
1. We should strive to live an obedient life which will result in joy. Psalms 51:12,13. Maintain a Christ like testimony to glorify God before others. Matthew 5:16.
2. Our attitude should be in prayer, meekness and fear. 2 Timothy 2:23-26, Colossians 4:2-6, 2 Corinthians 5:11.
3. Earn the right to witness to another person by being friendly and learn to empathize with that person. 1 Corinthians 9:19-27, Romans 9:1-3.
4. Listen as well as talk. Isaiah 1:18. It is best to answer questions first and let the other person talk so that you can get a feel for their spiritual state. An example is asking what they think of the Bible, God, Jesus, Man, etc. But be sure your questions lead to telling the whole gospel.
5. Do not presuppose a negative response. Your witnessing may be the groundwork for someone else to reap a soul, or the groundwork may already have been laid for you to reap a soul. John 4:34-38.
6. Do not be discouraged. Galatians 6:9.
7. Make sure you present the gospel first. Give basic evidences as the person asks for them. John 3.
8. You can give a brief testimony of how you became a Christian and tell what God has done in your life. Acts 26.
9. Help the person see their need to repent. Matthew 16:26, Acts 24:24-25.
You must draw out and understand the person's spiritual state:
If on Judgment Day your every thought and deed will be Judged by the Law of God, and if you were to die tonight, can you say for certain you would go to heaven (assuming there is a heaven)? If yes why? If no why? If no, would you like to know that God will promise you assurance of forgiveness and heaven if you place your trust in Jesus as your Lord and the Savior of your sins?
10. Get the person to make a commitment: Ask them if they want to receive the Lord personally: if they're not ready to receive the Lord will they read the Bible or Christian literature or come to Church etc. Continue to pray for that person. James 5:16b.
Grace - heaven is a free gift, Romans 6:23... it is not earned, merited or deserved. Romans 4:4-5.
Man - is a sinner. Romans 3:10-18,23; he cannot save himself or even contribute toward his own salvation. Ephesians 2:8,9.
God - is merciful, and therefore does not take pleasure in punishing us, 2 Peter 3:9, but is also just and must require that sin be paid for. Romans 6:23.
Jesus - is the infinite God-Man, John 1:1-3,14, He paid for our sins and purchased heaven for us, which he offers as a gift to repentant sinners. Isaiah 53:5,6; Romans 3:21-26. This gift is received by:
Faith - it is not mere intellectual assent, James 2:19, and it is not temporal faith (foxhole faith only), Romans 8:28-30, but rather, it is trusting in Jesus alone for salvation, Romans 3:21-28; 4:4,5, 16,18-24; Galatians 3:14-18.
MAKE SURE YOU EXPLAIN THE GOSPEL IN TERMS THEY CAN UNDERSTAND
AND
NOT IN CHRISTIAN JARGON. MAKE SURE THEY UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU'RE
SAYING. BE SENSITIZED TO THE OTHER PERSON BY EYE CONTACT, AND BY
WATCHING FOR REACTIONS (VERBAL AND PHYSICAL EXPRESSIONS).
PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT! 1 Corinthians 15:58.
